Rust College names Barry Wellington as new head men’s basketball coach
JANS – Rust College has tagged Barry Wellington as its new head men’s basketball coach. Wellington brings with him a wealth of experience and a strong track record of success at multiple levels of collegiate basketball.
Coach Wellington joins Rust College from Arizona Christian University, where he served as the defensive coordinator during the 2024–2025 season, helping lead the program to an impressive 30–5 overall record. Prior to his time at Arizona Christian, he was an assistant coach at former GSAC rival Menlo College.
Over the course of his coaching career, Wellington has contributed to several successful programs across both the NCAA and NAIA levels. His previous stops include NCAA Division II institutions Lane College and Christian Brothers University, NAIA powerhouse University of the Cumberlands, and Lamar State College Port Arthur, where he served for two seasons.
As a player, Wellington earned All-American honors at Mountain State University. His decorated playing career began at Treadwell High School in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year.
Coach Wellington earned his bachelor’s degree in applied arts and sciences from Lamar University in 2017. Off the court, he enjoys attending sporting events, bowling, and playing mini golf.
