JANS – The results of the Mississippi governor’s race demonstrate the growing political strength of Black and Brown communities in the state.
“While we are disappointed in these results, the gubernatorial campaign and election have sent a powerful message to Mississippians and people far beyond our state that change is coming,” said Margaret Huang, president and CEO of the SPLC Action Fund.
“We are proud to have been among the organizations to talk to Mississippi voters – especially those in rural areas – about the importance of new leadership who will restore and expand the rights and opportunities so important to all communities. We are committed to continuing these conversations throughout the state.
“No one can deny this growing movement now. And, despite the outcome, we are not deterred in the least bit. We will continue to support candidates throughout Mississippi and the Deep South who share in our commitment to addressing the deep inequities that plague our nation. This is just the beginning.”
