Nalaya Thompson

JANS – Holmes Community College Ridgeland Campus student Nalaya Thompson of Jackson was recently selected for an exclusive chemistry research internship at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Old Dominion University (ODU) has a well-known Research Education for Undergraduates (REU) program for community college students wanting to explore chemistry, and Thompson will participate in the program this summer.

“Nalaya was one of several community college students to apply for the program, so it was an honor for her to be chosen,” said Holmes chemistry instructor Dr. Kenneth Troy Milliken. “She will be doing high-level chemistry research for the summer on C-H activation.”

Thompson, the daughter of Maya and Greg Thompson, is an engineering chemical/biological/petroleum engineering major at Holmes. She is active on campus as a member of the STEM Club and Phi Theta Kappa and will graduate in May.  Following the summer internship at ODU, Thompson will transfer to the University of Mississippi where she will major in chemical engineering.
