The Hinds County School District recognizes the challenges faced by teachers new to the district and new to the profession of teaching. Because of this, the HCSD has initiated the Teacher Induction Program, pairing veteran teachers with those teachers new to the district or new to the profession. Through a skillfully designed program, inductees and mentors work together throughout the year to address the specific needs of new teachers. Pictured are some of our inductees.

Each month, through the Hinds County School District Teacher Induction Program, a “Rookie of the Month” is selected.

For the month of October, the Rookie of the Month was Johnny Willis of Terry High School.

Coach Willis is a native of Mendenhall. He graduated from William Carey University with a degree in Physical Education. Currently, he is teaching ACT Prep and Personal Leadership. These subjects play into his teaching strengths because he became a teacher to make a difference. “I became a teacher to help build character and confidence in our youth.”

When asked why he chose the Hinds County School District for employment, Coach Willis responded, “After interviewing with Mr. Scott and after he shared his vision and his goals, I knew I wanted to be a part of Terry High School. I could see the sincerity and realness he exhibited and knew this was the place for me.”
