NAACP SUES TO STOP TRUMP ADMINISTRATION FROM DISMANTLING THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION!
A few days ago, Republicans stripped 17 MILLION Americans of their healthcare and gutted food assistance programs. But while you were following the “Big, Ugly Bill” chaos, the Trump administration announced plans to withhold $6.8 billion in critical funding for local schools.
The NAACP says it will not let this devastating attack on education, which impacts students and families nationwide, go unchallenged.
The Department of Education provides critical funding for over 50 million students in grades K-12 across the country. It supports students with disabilities, promotes equal educational opportunities, bolsters the educator workforce, and administers the Federal Student Aid Programs that help students pay for college.
Eliminating it jeopardizes more than 400,000 educator jobs, threatens support for 7.5 million students with disabilities, and leaves millions of students vulnerable to discrimination.
The lawsuit alleges that Trump does not have the authority to close the Department of Education. The civil rights organization has asked the court to halt the administration’s attempt to dismantle the department immediately.
“We refuse to stand idly by as our communities are left unprotected. This is not leadership. If the president refuses to protect American children, the NAACP will use every tool possible to put them first,” says Derrick Johnson, NAACP President.
