JANS – The Mississippi Museum of Art (MMA/the Museum) was recognized by two notable Mississippi organizations for its commitment to the communities it serves. On October 6, 2023, the Mississippi Tourism Association (MTA) honored MMA as its “Attraction of the Year” during their annual awards ceremony at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism. Every year, MTA presents this award to attractions that excel in bringing visitors to their city.
On October 12, 2023, MMA was recognized as one of Mississippi’s “Top Nonprofits of the Year” by the Mississippi Alliance of Nonprofits & Philanthropy and the Mississippi Business Journal. Beyond its distinguished permanent collection and special exhibitions, the Museum hosts a diversity of educational programs and events, making it a vibrant hub for gathering, exchange, and learning. MMA provides engaging experiences for visitors of all ages year-round. One of MMA’s recent standout achievements was its groundbreaking traveling exhibition, A Movement in Every Direction: Legacies of the Great Migration, which was on display at the Museum from April to September 2022. The exhibition had a significant impact, attracting 60,000 visitors from Mississippi and other states like Texas, Louisiana, New York, California, and Georgia. It received glowing reviews, with The New York Times calling it a “critic’s pick” and The Guardian praising its remarkable range.
Jana Brady, Chief Advancement Officer of MMA, expressed her gratitude on behalf of the Museum, saying, “We are incredibly honored to receive these two prestigious acknowledgements. This recognition confirms our team’s hard work and dedication to creating engaging and thought-provoking exhibitions that connect with visitors from all over the country. We take pride in contributing to Mississippi’s vibrancy as a must-see destination and serving our community.”
