Motivational Mondays in the Marketplace™ Know Your Worth
Key Scripture
“The laborer is worthy of his wages.” — Luke 10:7 (NKJV)
One of the greatest lessons we must learn in life, business, ministry, and leadership is this: Know your worth.
Recently, I found myself reflecting on a situation that taught me this lesson all over again. For more than three years, I provided a service for a project that I believed in. When I first started, I agreed to work at a fraction of what my services were actually worth because I wanted to help, support the vision, and create opportunities.
Over time, however, I began to notice something. Everyone else involved was being compensated according to their value and contribution—everyone except me.
That realization was a wake-up call.
Many people will gladly accept your gifts, talents, expertise, wisdom, and labor without ever recognizing their true value. Some will celebrate what you bring to the table while simultaneously expecting you to keep serving at a discount. Others will benefit from the oil on your life without understanding the cost you paid to obtain it.
Jesus reminds us in Luke 10:7 that “the laborer is worthy of his wages.” In other words, God never intended for people to continually work, build, serve, and sacrifice without recognizing the value of their contribution. This principle is not just about money—it is about honor, respect, and proper stewardship.
What people often fail to see are the years of preparation, sacrifice, training, failures, victories, education, experience, prayer, and perseverance that made you who you are today.
You cannot continuously give away what God has invested in you and expect to fulfill your purpose at the highest level.
Knowing your worth is not arrogance—it is stewardship.
There comes a time when you must stop accepting what others think you deserve and begin embracing what God says about you. There comes a time when you must stop apologizing for your value and start honoring it.
Sometimes that means turning down smaller opportunities so you can make room for greater ones. Sometimes it means walking away from environments that appreciate your presence but refuse to honor your contribution. Sometimes it means having the courage to say, “This is the value I bring, and I will no longer diminish it.”
Never allow people who do not recognize your worth to determine your value.
Your worth was established by God long before anyone hired you, promoted you, endorsed you, or applauded you. You are valuable because God created you with purpose, equipped you with gifts, and entrusted you with assignments that only you can fulfill.
Stand firmly on God’s promises concerning your life. Trust Him to open the right doors, connect you with the right people, and position you in places where your gifts are appreciated and your value is honored.
Remember: What God has placed in you is valuable. Treat it that way.
