Motivational Mondays in the Marketplace
Lord, I’m Available
By Dr. Kathy Amos
One of the greatest qualities we can possess in both ministry and the marketplace is availability.
This past week after our Healthcare Lunch & Learn, while many people were preparing to leave, one of our chamber members, Alberta, stayed behind to help clean up. During that time, my husband received a phone call from a young mother whose daughter had been suffering with high fevers for several days and had been admitted into the hospital.
He handed the phone to Alberta, who is an LPN. What blessed me was not just her professional knowledge, but her willingness to pause, pray, encourage, and minister to this mother during a very difficult moment. A few days later, we received the testimony that the baby’s fever had broken and they were preparing to go home.
As I reflected on that moment, I realized something powerful: ministry did not happen during the luncheon itself. It happened afterward. It happened while cleaning up. It happened during what many would consider an inconvenient moment.
Sometimes we become so focused on the event, the meeting, the networking opportunity, or the assignment that we forget God may still want to use us beyond what was scheduled.
The marketplace is not separate from purpose. Every gift, profession, talent, and experience we carry can become an instrument of encouragement, healing, wisdom, or hope when we remain available to God.
Availability is more than physically being present. It is maintaining a heart posture that says, “Lord, if You need me, I’m willing.” It means being sensitive enough to recognize when someone needs prayer, encouragement, wisdom, compassion, or simply someone to listen.
Many times, the greatest impact we make in life will not happen on a stage or behind a microphone. It will happen in ordinary moments through simple acts of obedience and compassion.
People are carrying silent burdens every day. Some are overwhelmed, discouraged, grieving, or searching for hope. God often places us in strategic positions to become part of someone else’s breakthrough simply because we were willing to respond.
This week, I encourage you to remain spiritually attentive. Don’t allow busyness, schedules, or responsibilities to close your heart to the people around you.
Your availability may become the very thing God uses to change someone’s life.
Lord, I’m available — anytime and anywhere.
