JANS – Hundreds of African American men from across the country will be in Jackson for a three-day conference, May 9-11, 2023, at the Jackson Convention Complex, 7 pm nightly. As part of the conference on May 11, outreach volunteers will distribute approximately 3,000 boxes — 1,000 to shelters, community organizations, and senior centers — of personal care and household items to needy residents.

“From a water crisis to garbage collection disruptions and storm damage, residents in and around the Jackson area have been gripped by numerous problems over the past few months,” commented Bishop Patrick Wooden, co-director of the Men Perfecting Men Conference. “For many of them, the unexpected related expenses have taken a toll on the family budget.”
Echoing that same sentiment is Pastor A.D. Shaw, Church of God in Christ MPM Cares outreach director. “From natural disasters to a global supply crisis that has left store shelves empty, there are so many issues impacting families in the Jackson community that have created a great need for resources; and we want to help.”

The group has collected donations from its member churches and other resources. Care packages include items such as bleach, Lysol, laundry detergent, tissue, toothpaste, baby wipes and pampers, mouthwash, and other hygiene products,” said MPM Cares Coordinator Bishop Michael Jones. “All these items will be passed out free to residents in the Jackson area. And some will be delivered to Rolling Folk to assist residents still recovering from the recent tornado,” he added.
The Church of God in Christ MPM Cares team has partnered with other groups such as Jackson Public Schools, the American Red Cross, and the Hinds Community College Minority Male Leadership Program to distribute the items. Jackson Hinds Comprehensive Health Center professionals will also be onsite to provide health screenings.
The MPM Cares Community Giveaway is a part of the Church of God in Christ International Men’s Ministry Men Perfecting Men Conference.
