JPD announces Operation Safe Shop crime prevention tips

JANS – The City of Jackson is reminding residents of helpful tips to avoid becoming a victim of crime this shopping season. The goal for all residents and visitors to the Capital City is to have a safe and enjoyable holiday experience. The Jackson Police Department has put together several tips to consider when out shopping as part of its Operation Safe Shop campaign.

Parking/Shopping tips

Avoid driving alone.

Park in well-lit areas.

Keep windows closed and doors locked.    

Set alarm/anti-theft device.

Be alert of large vehicles.

Park as close as you can to your destination. (Remember where you parked.)

Do NOT leave children inside the car – even at home.

Never leave your car unoccupied and with the motor running. 

Be aware of  your surroundings

Locate your keys prior to returning to vehicle.

Don’t approach car alone.

Lock items in the trunk.

Keep purse secure (never place on top of car).

Keep any valuables in the trunk or out of sight.

JPD will also be providing additional resources this holiday season as part of the campaign.
