It’s time to decompress and unwind with a Sound Bath & Float session

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Recently, I had the opportunity to observe a Sound Bath & Float session hosted by Maya Morris, founder of Split Rebel Yoga. The session I observed was private, just eight women, each given their own float to rest upon in the outdoors swimming pool. Surrounded by nature, the setting alone felt like a healing sanctuary.

The experience began with a short guided meditation, inviting everyone to release the weight of the day and settle into presence. From there, the host positioned herself outside of the water, and began to play her sound bowls. The women floated peacefully, their bodies resting in stillness while the sound created an atmosphere of deep calm and surrender.

Even as an observer, I could feel the shift in energy around me. It was a reminder that healing doesn’t always require doing, sometimes it’s simply about allowing, receiving, and being held by the elements that exist around us. This Sound Bath & Float session was a testament to how water, sound, and stillness can come together to restore the soul.

My Top 5 Benefits of Sound Bath & Float

Stress Relief – Floating while surrounded by sound helps regulate the nervous system and reduces stress.

Muscle Recovery – The buoyancy of water eases tension while sound vibrations encourage deep release.

Mental Clarity – Together, water and sound promote focus, inner stillness, and emotional balance.

Improved Sleep – Many experience better rest after sessions, as the body and mind reach deep relaxation.

Energetic Renewal – The practice clears stagnant energy, leaving participants feeling refreshed and restored.

My Invitation to the Community

Experiences like Sound Bath & Float remind us that self-care doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. There are several modalities, from massage therapy and meditation, to yoga, plant-based wellness, and now floating in harmony with sound! Yes, all of these amazing wellness practices are available right here in the community. Each practice offers an opportunity back to balance, a way to reconnect with your body, mind, and soul.

I encourage you to be open to trying something new. Step outside of your routine, explore these beneficial practices and start your “wealth is health” journey! In the art of disconnecting, you may just find the deepest connection of all, the one back to yourself.

Fun Fact: Maya is the proud founder of Central Mississippi’s first Black-owned yoga studio. She also established a Yoga Teacher Training program, where she has proudly certified approximately nine Black women, expanding representation and leadership within the wellness community.
