On Oct. 2nd, filmmaker and visual artist Talamieka Brice returned to Jackson for the Mississippi premiere of her latest film, WITNESS, at the Smith Robertson Museum and Cultural Center. The screening marked five years since the Jackson premiere of Brice’s debut documentary, FIVE: A Mother’s Journey. Presented through a new partnership between Mississippi2 and the Immigrant Alliance for Justice and Equity (IAJE), the event brought together film, art, storytelling, and community engagement. WITNESS is an experimental documentary and visual essay exploring themes of art, memory, Africatown, family, and what people choose to remember and carry forward.
