A Lifetime of Legacy: Provine High School class of ‘86 celebrates 40 years

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about Jackson residents, it’s that school pride runs deep. No matter how many years have passed or how far life has taken them, the love and loyalty they have for their alma mater never seem to fade. Last month, I had the opportunity to spend time with the Provine High School Class of ‘86 during their 40th class reunion. Classmates traveled from near and far to return home and show love for “2400” Robinson Road.

Dedicated committee members did an outstanding job organizing their reunion. The class of ‘86 marked their milestone with exceptional style, combining an unforgettable reunion with an intentional commitment to support current students at Provine and local small businesses throughout Jackson.

I joined the festivities for two days as they created new memories that will last a lifetime. Friday evening was spent at the Rookery, a historic event space in downtown Jackson, followed by an elegant gala Saturday night at the Capitol Club, which offered breathtaking views of the city. The committee members took time during the gala to honor classmates who had passed away and they gave special acknowledgment to Provine High retiree Ms. Dorothy Hatcher who was in attendance. I enjoyed hearing the laughs, seeing the tears, and feeling the love in the air.

My most memorable moment was walking the high school halls and sitting in the cafeteria with my brother Omar Reese who returned home after 27 years! The alumni chanted their old favorite school cheers and shared many laughs together. If I had to rate this 40th class reunion, I would definitely give it a solid 10 out of 10!
