Dr. Audwin Fletcher inducted as Fellow of American Assn. of Nurse Practitioners
JANS – Dr. Audwin Fletcher, tenured professor of nursing, has been inducted into the Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) program for 2026.
Dr. Fletcher is among 59 members of FAANP recognized for outstanding achievements and exemplary service. Less than 1% of AANP members are inducted into the FAANP, and this recognition is considered among the nursing profession’s highest honors. Fellows in the program are those having made or continue making a positive and profound impact on national and global health through leadership, mentorship, and contributing to professional development programs.
A 35-year employee of UMMC, Dr. Fletcher holds a doctorate in clinical health sciences and is an advanced practice registered nurse, and is a board-certified family nurse practitioner. He also has taught and mentored undergrad and grad students in the School of Nursing for 28 years.
Dr. Fletcher emerged as an influential national leader dedicated to improving the health of the underserved and underrepresented through contributions to organizational excellence. Exemplars include his work and leadership roles in the National Black Nurses Obesity National Weight Initiative (funded by the Coca Cola Foundation) and the 100 Black Men of America (Jackson, Mississippi chapter) mentoring program. Because of his exemplary contributions to nursing scholarship through his work with these notable entities, he was appointed as a member of the National Advisory Council for Nursing Research of the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Dr. Fletcher has dedicated his entire career to providing optimal healthcare to underserved and disadvantaged populations, while continuing to positively influence nursing with his lifelong, sustained, exceptional commitment and achievements in nursing education, practice, and scholarship.
He and his wife Cynthia have one son, Jackson Hawthorne Fletcher. They reside in Richland, Mississippi.
