Congratulations are extended to 15-year-old Kierra Slack of Booneville, MS in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement last school term. She was selected for membership in the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).

Membership into the NSHSS is by invitation only to high-achieving students who have met at least one of the organization’s rigorous academic criteria. NSHSS provides members with lifetime access to a variety of experiences and resources including scholarship opportunities, member events, leadership and study abroad programs, service activities, partner offers, and a network of academically-outstanding peers. NSHSS members are making an impact in their schools, communities, and the world.

Presently, Slack is a 10th grader at Booneville High School. She is a member of the girls basketball team and plays clarinet in the school band. She also loves to dance. Slack aspires to be a pediatrician and to open a medical clinic in her hometown. To fulfill her dreams, she has her sights set on attending Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN for her undergraduate work and then moving on down the road to Meharry Medical School for her doctoral studies. However, Jackson State University is also on her list of potential colleges.

Among those who are “all in” to help Slack reach her goals are her parents, Amanda Alexander and Nicholas Slack. With two younger siblings, Kierra says she feels the pressure of being a positive role model. In our estimation, she’s got the title of “Big Sis” down pat!
