JANS – If a group of disenchanted Hinds County voters have their way, the Hinds County Election Commissioners won’t be the only ones at their December 12 meeting.
Concerned citizens and a coalition of local, statewide, and national civil rights organizations plan to share their frustration over the ballot shortages during the Hinds County general election November 7.
The coalition’s pending request to meet with the Hinds County Election Commission was announced at a press conference December 7 at the Hinds County Circuit Clerk Office.
Among claimants voicing their concerns over the ballot debacle were Hinds County voters and a Hinds County Election Protection poll monitor who were backed by members of the Legal Defense Fund (LDF), One Voice, Jackson NAACP, ACLU of Mississippi, Mississippi Center for Justice, Southern Poverty Law Center, Mississippi Poor People’s Campaign, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, League of Women Voters of Mississippi, Black Voters Matter, Mississippi Votes, Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable, and Mississippi Urban League.
