WHAT IS YOUR NAME?

My name is Roshunda Harris-Allen.

IN 250 WORDS OR LESS, PLEASE TELL US WHY YOU ARE SEEKING PUBLIC OFFICE?

I, Roshunda Harris-Allen, Alderwoman-at-Large in Byram, Mississippi, have been encouraged and motivated to become the next House Representative for District 66. Having been involved in civic activities and worked for positive change in Mississippi, it is time for me to step up, take the gavel, and lead positive change that will have a lifelong impact in Mississippi. My goal is for us to work together to expand the quality of our community through education, preparation, advocacy, collaboration, and enhancement to inspire individuals, families, and businesses to build a better District.

With your support, we can work together to address the concerns, the quality of community growth and expanding of great resources for District 66 regarding the basic needs of all. These concerns include, but not limited to, equity and equality for PreK-16 education, persons with disabilities, healthcare, economic development, and gun safety.

As the next Mississippi House Representative for District 66, it is a priority for me to listen to all of the citizens that represent the District and the state of Mississippi. My purpose as a public official is to educate, advocate, and provide resources to the community I serve.

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IS/ARE THE GREATEST OBSTACLE(S) TO ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IN HINDS COUNTY?

The greatest obstacles to economic and community development are access to resources, high quality school systems, efficient workforce development programs, trained and qualified personnel, and the continuous decrease in population.

IF ELECTED, WHAT STEPS WILL YOU TAKE TO MINIMIZE OR ELIMINATE THIS/THESE OBSTACLE(S)?

I will commit to doing the appropriate research and seeking input from individuals in the community to help minimize or eliminate economic and community development obstacles in Hinds County.

WHAT IS YOUR NAME

My name is Fabian Nelson.

IN 250 WORDS OR LESS, PLEASE TELL US WHY YOU ARE SEEKING PUBLIC OFFICE?

I was inspired to run for office because of the things, or lack thereof, that occurred at our Legislature last session. We often talk about the things that need to change but still wait for something to get done. Instead of talking about and waiting on that change, I decided to be that change by running for office.

Some of the things that happened at our Legislature last session are:

Voter Suppression laws

Unconstitutional laws that strip an entire city of its judicial power

An unrestored ballot initiative that died on a technicality

Our failure as a state to fully fund education

Our failure as a state to expand Medicaid and provide affordable health care

I want a better Mississippi for my children. I want my children to grow up in a state where they feel wanted and included. I have advocated at the capitol as a private citizen for over ten years. It is time to sit at the table, roll up my sleeves, and fight for my fellow Mississippians.

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IS/ARE THE GREATEST OBSTACLE(S) TO ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IN HINDS COUNTY?

Being the most extensive and most populous county in our state, Hinds County is plagued with several problems that have hurt us economically. The main one is our dwindling tax base due to population decrease. The second hindrance to economic and community development is ailing infrastructure. To grow economically, we must provide our citizens with the basics: crime reduction, safe drinking water, reliable broadband, and road improvements.

IF ELECTED, WHAT STEPS WILL YOU TAKE TO MINIMIZE OR ELIMINATE THIS/THESE OBSTACLE(S)?

If elected, I will continue to be a voice for the people. I will make sure that all funds appropriated to Hinds County from the Legislature are used for the projects that they are intended for. Relationships matter; I have worked hard to establish relationships with local, county, and statewide elected officials. Our county is facing many issues that fall outside of the scope of a Legislator; that is why it is vital to have working relationships with ALL elected officials to formulate a plan to fix the issues plaguing our county.
