Three Hinds CC students receive HBCU scholarships

JANS – Three Hinds Community College students on the Utica Campus have received the 2024 National Association of Historically Black Colleges and Universities Title III Administrator’s Annual Scholarship.

The Institutional Aid-Title III program is funded by the United States Department of Education. In taking away some of the financial burden of attending college, Title III is designed to increase participation in HBCU programs. Being involved in campus programs that are invested in creating student success is the purpose of the funding according to Jonathan W. Townes, Vice President of Career and Technical Education, Sponsored Grants and HBCU Initiatives.

“Scholarships allow our students to be more successful in all aspects of higher education,” Townes said.

This year’s recipients of the Title III Administrator’s Annual Scholarship are Dominique Joseph of Jackson, who received a $1,000 scholarship; Kyra Williams, also of Jackson, who received a $500 scholarship; and Lamaria Jones of Huntsville, Ala., who received a $500 scholarship.

“These students are not just scholarship recipients but are now advocates for other students who also need funding. We are proud of the leadership and staff within our Title III program. They are dedicated to serving our students and providing them with opportunities like this scholarship,” Townes said.
