Policies and actions that disproportionately harm marginalized groups erode the foundation of equity and inclusion we strive to build. DEI is not just an abstract ideal; it is a moral and economic necessity. Instead of fostering division, we call on policymakers to enact humane immigration reforms that prioritize family unity, economic stability, and community well-being.
Key Issues with the raids carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Family Separation and Community Fear
Immigration raids often lead to the detention and deportation of parents, leaving children – many of whom are U.S. citizens – without caregivers. This results in emotional trauma, financial instability, and disruptions in education. Communities with high immigrant populations experience widespread fear, discouraging residents from seeking medical care, reporting crimes, or engaging in public life due to the risk of deportation.
Economic Impact on Businesses and Local Economies
Immigrants make up a significant portion of the U.S. workforce, particularly in agriculture, construction, hospitality, and healthcare. The removal of workers through immigration raids disrupts businesses, reduces productivity, and causes economic instability.
