Walking With the Lord: The Leadership Advantage

As I reflected on a recent Bible teaching about those who walked with the Lord, I found myself thinking about Enoch, Noah, Moses, and David. Their lives looked very different, and none of them were perfect. Yet they shared one defining characteristic—their hearts were turned toward God.
That caused me to ask a simple but life-changing question: What does it look like to intentionally walk with the Lord as a marketplace leader today?
As business owners, executives, entrepreneurs, ministers, coaches, and community leaders, our calendars quickly fill with meetings, deadlines, decisions, and responsibilities. It’s easy to become so focused on leading others that we unintentionally neglect the One who called us to lead.
I’ve learned that before God ministers through me, He first wants to minister to me.
Walking with the Lord isn’t reserved for Sunday worship or moments of crisis. It is a daily decision to keep our hearts and ears tuned to Heaven’s frequency. It is inviting God into every business decision, every difficult conversation, every opportunity, and every challenge.
When we walk closely with Him, our discernment becomes sharper. Our decisions become wiser. Our leadership becomes more compassionate because His love first transforms our own hearts.
One of the greatest dangers of leadership is allowing our assignment to replace our relationship with God. Success, influence, and achievement can never substitute for intimacy with Him.
Jesus reminds us in John 15 that apart from Him, we can do nothing. That truth isn’t meant to discourage us; it’s an invitation to remain connected to the true source of our wisdom, strength, and purpose.
Our greatest leadership advantage is not our experience, education, or accomplishments. It is our daily walk with the Lord.
This week, I encourage you to pause before the meetings begin, before the emails are answered, and before the demands of the day compete for your attention. Spend time walking with the Lord. Allow Him to quiet your heart, direct your steps, and remind you that every assignment is most effective when it flows from His presence.
When we walk with the Lord, we don’t simply prosper.
We prosper God’s way.
