Metro Jackson physicians to support Southeast region heart health outcomes

JANS – April Carson, Ph.D., M.S.P.H., FAHA and Michael E. Hall, M.D., M.S. will serve on the American Heart Association’s Southeast Board of Directors.  

Dr. Carson is the Director of the Jackson Heart Study and Professor of Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. The Jackson Heart Study is the United States’ largest and longest-running longitudinal study of cardiovascular health in African Americans. “Research studies funded by the American Heart Association have helped to inform clinical guidelines for the prevention, management, and treatment of cardiovascular conditions, including research from the Jackson Heart Study. Together, we will continue to make advancements in medicine and research for the people of Mississippi.” 


Dr. Hall is the professor and chair of the Department of Medicine; Patrick H. Lehan endowed chair of cardiovascular diseases; and the director of clinical and population studies, Mississippi Center for Clinical & Translational Research at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. “It is an honor to serve on the Southeast regional board,” Hall said. “As a long-time volunteer with the American Heart Association, continuing the mission of the Association has been at the forefront of my ideal goals. It is an exciting time to be part of the Association’s second century. I look forward to reaching all communities within the Southeast.”
