Letter to the Editor

My concern is that newspaper outlets are too quiet on the issues of the day. Our youth are self destructing and ship wrecking their lives. There should be extensive outreach to the community as to why the sudden rise in lawlessness in the City of Jackson, for example. Is it because we have neglected the main ingredient in having a happy peaceful life? When a people turn away from God they do not fair well. Someone said there is a falling away in the family, the home, the church, the school, and the community. The information highway, which is the media, makes no mention of the change in curfew. If you shoot inside city limits you may be looking at a 20 year prison term. No warning to single women of their surroundings, and things to be aware of when out alone. And there should be a published list of all the jobs and workforce training opportunities available to anyone unemployed. Sometimes people want to work but need guidance in the right direction. There are so many opportunities for gainful employment and training, not only for the youth but for adults, as well. Please feature a section on jobs or highlight a job or an employer of the week.

Also, focus on family. Parents do you know where your children are?

There are some great needs in the community, such as how are mental illness patients placed in the community and are they really getting the services they need?

What about displaced families facing hardships, because they can’t show three times the rent?

What about bringing attention to areas throughout the city where the homeless are. And the fact they are sleeping in the woods, abandoned buildings, down in ditches, etc. There is so much public awareness needed. The Advocate can once again bring to the forefront issues that raise public awareness and concern with the hope of getting legislation and people involved. We need some answers, some help. We know TeamWork makes the Dream Work and indeed it takes a village. Schools were closed but how many of those books were donated to the jails and prisons? I hope there will be all hands on deck and boots on the ground to bring this to light. We need newspaper coverage to get the Word out…Psalm 127:1. Jackson is Rising and Mississippi is moving into First not Last….
