The klan gear found in Mississippi Department of Public Safety must be investigated due to research that places Felder Beard listed below (a list of the kkk) as an active member of the white knights of the kkk aided James O. Eastland involvement in the case of Emmett Till.

Felder Beard’s Role:

Beard was an aide/operative closely tied to James O. Eastland, a United States Senator of Mississippi in the late 1950s–1960s.

His responsibilities included collecting local intelligence on reactions to the Till case by monitoring newspapers, community sentiment, and civil rights activity.

Reporting opposition activity to Eastland – civil rights organizers, Northern media interest, and federal investigators.

He also advised on messaging by helping Eastland and allies craft public statements and legislative positions to deflect criticism.

This helped Eastland political shielding by gathering information, Beard helped Eastland anticipate national scrutiny and respond preemptively.

This knowledge from Beard allowed Eastland to justify blocking civil rights measures in Congress, framing them as “overreach” or interference in Mississippi affairs.

Beard’s monitoring of local activism ensured Eastland’s network stayed alert to dissent, keeping political opponents marginalized.

Beard’s role illustrates the intersection of local intelligence and federal politics in maintaining segregationist power.

Emmett Till’s case, while horrific, became a tool for Eastland to rally conservative support, portraying himself as defending “Southern values,” and Beard’s reporting was a key part of that strategy.

It highlights how political aides in Mississippi were actively engaged in surveillance and information management during the Civil Rights era, rather than being passive staffers. I believe this still holds to be true today in surveillance and gathering information against those (they) claim as a threat!
