JSU names Preselfannie E. Whitfield McDaniels, Ph.D., provost and appoints Carlos D. Wilson, Ph.D., dean of Graduate Studies
(JACKSON, Miss.) — Jackson State University (JSU) has named Preselfannie E. Whitfield McDaniels, Ph.D., provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, following her service in the interim role since May 15, 2025.
A professor of English in the College of Liberal Arts and longtime faculty member, McDaniels brings more than 25 years of higher education experience to JSU’s chief academic role. She previously served as dean of the Division of Graduate Studies from 2018 to 2025 and chaired the Department of English, Foreign Languages and Speech Communication.
JSU also appointed Carlos D. Wilson, Ph.D., as dean of the Division of Graduate Studies. Wilson has served as interim dean since May 2025 and previously served as associate dean of Graduate Studies.
A three-time JSU graduate, Wilson earned his bachelor’s degree in 2004, a master’s degree in 2006 and a Ph.D. in Urban Higher Education in 2012. He is a tenured associate professor of Interdisciplinary Studies and brings more than 20 years of academic and administrative experience to the role.
