J.W. Martin, Jr. was born on December 4, 1951 in Jackson, MS to Maxine Goodlow and J.W. Martin, Sr.

J.W. Martin, Jr. was a true people person. He brought light to every room he entered. It brought him joy to know that he could put a smile on someone’s face. He loved to dance, laugh, and spend time with his grandchildren.

J.W. Martin, Jr. passed September 13, 2021.

J.W. Martin, Jr. served in the United States Army from January 31, 1974 to January 23, 1979.

J.W. was a hardworking man. He worked at the Veterans Administration in Jackson, MS as a nutritionist back in the 80s and worked over 30 years in the security job field. He spent his extra time studying the Word and donating to various churches and organizations around the world. He was an author of his own spiritual letters, entitled “From A Loving Friend”, in which he would print hundreds of copies and pass them out to strangers daily. J.W. knew the Lord and would speak about the goodness of the Lord each and every day.

J.W. leaves to cherish his memories – four children: Renee Figures (Jake), Jackson, MS; Shonta Rowe (Michael), Augusta, GA; Jason Martin (Reina), Houston, TX; and Andrea Martin-Wilson, Houston, TX; siblings: Evon Martin and Gregory Martin; grandchildren: Joshua Martin, Arleescia Figures, Paris Martin, Cameron Wilson, Jordan Wilson, and McKenzee Rowe; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loyal friends.

A Cemetery Committal Service was held September 27 at MS Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Newton, MS. Jackson Memorial Funeral Service, Jackson, MS, handled arrangements.
