IAMH launches Women’s Health Empowerment Initiative
JANS – Thanks to support from the Women’s Foundation of Mississippi, the Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health (IAMH) has launched the Women’s Health Empowerment Initiative. The Women’s Health Empowerment Initiative is a community-centered program designed to support the emotional well-being, resilience, and leadership development of women across Central Mississippi.
The initiative served women ages 18 to 45 in Hinds, Madison, and Rankin counties through a combination of weekly support sessions, peer engagement opportunities, educational workshops, and resource referrals. The Women’s Health Empowerment Initiative was created to address barriers that often prevent women from accessing mental and emotional health support. These barriers include cost, transportation challenges, childcare needs, stigma, and limited availability of services. From now through December 2026, the program is providing a supportive environment where participants can build coping skills, connect with peers, and strengthen their overall well-being. Women often carry the weight of caring for families, managing careers, and navigating life’s challenges, sometimes without adequate support. This initiative creates a safe and supportive space where women can build coping skills, connect with others, and strengthen their ability to advocate for their own well-being.
The initiative focuses on women who face mental health access gaps. This including mothers and caregivers, low-income women, and women of color. The goal is to create a circle of care that women can trust and rely on as they work toward healthier lives for themselves and their families.
The Women’s Health Empowerment Initiative is funded by the Women’s Foundation of Mississippi. The foundation’s support helps expand access to mental health resources, peer support and leadership development opportunities for women across Central Mississippi.
