On Aug. 27th, U.S. Senate candidate and District Attorney Scott Colom held an accountability news conference in downtown Jackson, calling on U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith to hold an open public forum in Mississippi before the Senate returns from its August recess. Colom pointed to the stalled Farm Bill, which failed to advance from the Senate Agriculture Committee on August 6th. The current Farm Bill extension is set to expire September 30th, leaving a limited window for lawmakers to act after the Senate reconvenes September 14th. During the news conference outside Hyde-Smith’s former Jackson office at 190 E. Capitol Street, Colom also raised concerns about the senator’s lack of public forums where Mississippi constituents can directly ask questions. The event, titled “Where’s Cindy?”, focused on government accountability, access to elected officials and issues affecting Mississippians, particularly farmers and working families.
