On Sep. 1st, The You Are Not Alone Prostate Cancer Support Self-Help Group, Inc., founded by Jerry McKnight and supported by fellow members of Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church in West Jackson, recognized Prostate Cancer Awareness Month with a press conference at the Mississippi State Capitol. The event focused on increasing awareness of prostate cancer, encouraging men to discuss prostate health with their healthcare providers and highlighting the importance of PSA screening and early detection. According to the American Cancer Society, African American men are 50% more likely to develop prostate cancer and twice as likely to die from the disease compared with White men. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Community members are encouraged to wear blue throughout the month to show support and raise awareness. (Advocate Photos: Joshua Martin)
