On Aug. 28th, family members, civil rights advocates and community leaders gathered at the Mississippi State Capitol to honor the life and legacy of Emmett Till during the 71st Anniversary Commemoration Weekend. Speakers included Deborah Watts, Till’s cousin and co founder of the Emmett Till Legacy Foundation, Mayor John Horhn, De’Keither Stamps, Dinelle Hardin, Dennis Dahmer, Paul C. Johnson, Jaribu Hill, amongst others. The gathering reflected on Till’s legacy and the continued fight for justice and racial equality. Following the Capitol program, attendees marched to the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home for a moment of silence in Till’s honor. (Advocate Photos: Joshua Martin)
