Free HIV self-test kits available to MS residents

JANS – The Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health (IAMH) is encouraging Mississippians to prioritize their health with a simple but powerful message: Pride. Prevention. Peace. Know Your Status.

As part of its ongoing commitment to reducing HIV-related disparities and increasing access to care, the Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health (IAMH) provides free HIV self-test kits to individuals. The initiative is designed to make HIV testing more accessible, convenient, and confidential by allowing individuals to learn their status in the privacy of their own homes.

Knowing your HIV status is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your health. Despite advances in HIV prevention and treatment, the HIV epidemic continues to have a significant impact across the South. In 2022, the Southern United States accounted for nearly half (49%) of the 31,800 estimated new HIV infections nationwide. These numbers underscore the importance of expanding access to HIV testing, prevention resources, and education in Mississippi communities.

By offering free HIV self-test kits, IAMH is helping residents take a proactive step toward protecting their health and achieving peace of mind through knowing their status. HIV self-test kits provide a convenient and confidential option for individuals who may face barriers to traditional testing services or simply prefer to test at home.  The initiative aims to reduce stigma, increase awareness, and encourage more people to get tested. After receiving their results, individuals are provided with information, support, and referrals to additional services and resources as needed.
