The Emmett Till Historic Intrepid Center (ETHIC) convened a powerful three-day Youth Summit in Greenwood and Glendora, Mississippi, April 16–18, 2026. The Summit assembled students, parents, scholars, judges, nonprofit leaders, and elected officials to discuss today’s most pressing challenges facing young people. Grounded in the history of the 1955 murder of 14-year-old Emmett Till – a tragedy that helped catalyze the modern Civil Rights Movement – the summit connected past injustice to present-day action, underscoring the urgency of addressing violence, trauma, mental health, and inequity.

Participants heard from a distinguished group of leaders. Among them are Hon. Bennie Thompson, U.S. Representative, Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District; Hon. Tracey Rosebud, Mississippi House of Representatives, District 30; Hon. Solomon Osborne, Mississippi House of Representatives, District 32; Judge Willie Perkins, Chancery Judge, LeFlore and Sunflower counties; and Dr. Will Crossley, President, Piney Woods School.

Distinguishing itself from traditional conferences, the Summit emphasized action. Attendees engaged in hands-on workshops to develop strategic, research-informed Action Plans across five key focus areas: Education, Mental Health, Civic Engagement, Social and Cultural Development, and Economic Opportunity. These plans, presented and formally documented, will guide ETHIC’s ongoing work and community impact through its F.O.R.W.A.R.D. framework – Fostering Opportunity, Resilience, and Well-being through Action, Research, and Development.

Congressman Thompson commended ETHIC’s commitment to improving outcomes for youth across the Mississippi Delta.

ETHIC Executive Director Dr. Sharon Hill underscored the Summit’s significance, stating, “Today’s youth face urgent challenges – from violence and trauma to mental health struggles and inequity. The ETHIC Youth Summit: Moving FORWARD Together galvanized action by translating research into trauma-responsive strategies that can lead to measurable, positive, and lasting outcomes for young people.”
