JANS – Democratic National Committee Chair and Vice Chair, Ken Martin and Malcolm Kenyatta, respectively, will serve as special guest speakers at the Mississippi Democratic Party 2026 Hamer Winter Dinner. The annual fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, May 22, at the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson.

Martin, who was elected to lead the Democratic National Committee earlier this year, has made party-building across every state a cornerstone of his chairmanship. “His appearance at the Hamer Winter Dinner underscores a message that no state is written off and that Mississippi Democrats are an essential part of the national movement,” says Cheikh Taylor, Chairman, Mississippi Democratic Party.

Taylor also spoke highly of Kenyatta, calling him “a dynamic Pennsylvania lawmaker and nationally recognized voice for working families and progressive values.”

Chiming in was Mikel Bolden, Executive Director, Mississippi Democratic Party.

“Our guests will hear directly from the top of our national party about where we’re headed and why Mississippi is central to that future. This is going to be a night our members and supporters will remember, and one that fuels our growing momentum as we move toward the midterm elections.”

The Hamer Winter Dinner is the Mississippi Democratic Party’s premier annual gathering, honoring the legacy of former governor William Winter and Fannie Lou Hamer; sharecropper, organizer, and one of the most fearless champions of voting rights in American history. The event brings together Democratic activists, elected officials, donors, and community leaders from across the state each year to celebrate progress, honor dedication, and mobilize for the work ahead. This year’s hosts are media personalities Rita Brent and Brett “Papa Mississippi” Kenyon.
