Clarence Scutter named 2024 Commissioner of the Year

JANS – Clarence Scutter is the 2024 Commissioner of the Year for the Mississippi Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (MAHRO).  MAHRO is an instrumentality of public housing authorities which are involved in the development of or operation of a variety of affordable housing programs that are beneficial to low income citizens in the State of Mississippi by providing support and assistance to such entities in the furtherance of affordable housing.  MAHRO chooses a Commissioner of the Year annually through a nomination and voting selection process.  Scutter was nominated by Dr. Hickman Johnson, Executive Director, and Katina C. Pace, Deputy Executive Director of Mississippi Regional Housing Authority No. VI (MRHA 6).

Scutter has served on the Board of Commissioners for MRHA 6 for over 36 years as a representative for Claiborne County. He is an exemplary commissioner who has a genuine concern and desire to help improve the lives of others.  He has a comprehensive understanding of the housing authority’s mission and actively supports MRHA 6’s goals and promotes its accomplishments.   Scutter is sincerely concerned about local issues within his county and improving housing opportunities for its residents.  And, he is always supportive of the housing needs of the other eight counties in which MRHA 6 provides housing and housing assistance. Scutter has a wide range of knowledge and personal & professional affiliations that have been very beneficial to MRHA 6.  

Scutter is a lifelong resident of Port Gibson, MS. He and his wife, Bobbie, have 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He says that his ultimate goal is to glorify God through his service.  Scutter is well known and highly respected throughout Claiborne County.  He is compassionate and understands the needs of the underserved and low-income population.
