City Council honors hometown heroes – Rho Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority

RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, RECOGNIZING THE RHO LAMBDA OMEGA CHAPTER OF ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INCORPORATED FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SERVICE AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE JACKSON METROPOLITAN AREA. 

WHEREAS, the Rho Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was established on October 23, 1988, by thirty-two visionary Alpha Kappa Alpha women whose collective mission was to expand and extend “Supreme Service to All Mankind” within the growing community of Jackson, Mississippi; and 

WHEREAS, these charter members were united by a shared commitment to scholarship, leadership, and service, and recognized the importance of strengthening the presence and impact of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® throughout the Jackson Metropolitan Area; and 

WHEREAS, since its inception, the Rho Lambda Omega Chapter has demonstrated sustained excellence through the implementation of meaningful and ongoing community service initiatives designed to meet tangible needs and improve the quality of life for individuals and families across the Jackson Metropolitan Area; and 

WHEREAS, the Chapter established a strong programmatic foundation focused on Education, Health, Government, Family, the Arts, and Economic Empowerment, many of which initiatives have continued over the years and evolved to address contemporary community needs while remaining aligned with the international mission and programmatic priorities of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®; and 

WHEREAS, the Rho Lambda Omega Chapter, in partnership with its philanthropic arm, the Ebony Pearls Foundation, remains steadfast in its commitment to impactful service throughout Jackson and surrounding communities; and 

WHEREAS, through its signature programs and initiatives, the Chapter has served more than 50 youth through its Youth Leadership Institute, provided over 700 Childhood Hunger Power Packs to students at Oak Forest Elementary School, established a community garden at Magnolia Medical Foundation, registered more than 50 new voters, hosted the “She’s Got Next” seminar encouraging women to pursue public office, conducted an expungement clinic to assist residents with clearing eligible records, collected and donated 175 rolling suitcases to individuals experiencing homelessness, and awarded nearly $10,000 annually in scholarships to high school seniors across the tri-county area; and 

WHEREAS, the Rho Lambda Omega Chapter operates from its sorority house, The Ivy Pointe, located in Ward 2, and continues to serve as a consistent and powerful force for positive change throughout the City of Jackson and surrounding communities. 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Jackson hereby recognizes, honors, and commends the Rho Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® for its decades of dedicated service, leadership, and commitment to improving the lives of residents throughout the Jackson Metropolitan Area.
