AKA South Eastern Region MS Undergraduate Service Project provides hundreds of items to Canopy Children’s Solutions
JANS – Over 300 young women representing Mississippi undergraduate chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) in the South Eastern Region (SER) gathered Sat., Sept. 26, for the Undergraduate Leadership Institute. The day-long meeting at the Jackson Convention Complex focused on business matters, leadership development, and initiatives of the nation’s oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women.
The young members also kept with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s longstanding legacy of service and community impact with donations that will support Canopy Children’s Solutions, a nonprofit organization that serves children and families across Mississippi through behavioral health, educational, and family-support services. All of the state’s undergraduate chapters donated, with more than 1,350 packs of crayons, spiral notebooks, and pencils going directly to children and youth served by Canopy.
According to South Eastern Regional Director Toni Franklin, the project reflects AKA’s commitment to addressing challenges facing communities throughout the South Eastern Region.
“At AKA, service remains at the heart of who we are,” said Franklin. “Through our Mississippi service project initiative, our members are coming together to provide meaningful support and resources to those who need them most. We are proud to partner with organizations that are making a lasting difference in the lives of individuals and families throughout the community.”
Mississippi is one of three Undergraduate Leadership Institutes hosted by the South Eastern Region in 2026. The region comprises approximately 124 chapters and more than 15,000 members throughout Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
