On Sep. 1st, State Rep. Justis Gibbs launched the first phase of “Gibbs on the Ground” Tuesday, delivering fresh produce to more than 200 North Jackson homes as part of an effort to address food insecurity. The initiative, created in partnership with Dash Food Mart, also provided “Charger Packs” filled with fresh produce to the Callaway High School football team to support players’ nutrition throughout the season. Gibbs said the effort is intended to provide immediate, neighborhood-level support while he continues pursuing legislative solutions to address food deserts and access to healthy food. The initiative brought together local business partners, volunteers and community leaders to distribute fresh produce directly to residents. (Advocate Photos: Joshua Martin)
