On Aug. 25th, Jackson State University, Jackson Public Schools and Hinds Community College came together for a press conference announcing a new $10.67 million GEAR UP college readiness program. Led by JPS, the seven year federal grant will help prepare JPS scholars for college, careers and life after high school. Jackson State University will receive $1.3 million through the grant as one of the program’s institutional partners. The initiative will provide middle school scholars with additional resources, opportunities and support designed to strengthen their pathway to higher education and future careers. JSU President Denise Jones Gregory, Ph.D., JPS Superintendent Errick Greene, Ph.D., and Hinds Community College President Stephen Vacik, Ed.D., participated in the announcement.
