Piney Woods School selects alumnus to head new program
JANS – Rahim Lockhart has been tapped to lead The Piney Wood School’s newly created Government and African American Studies program. A third-generation legacy graduate (Class of 1996), Lockhart follows in the footsteps of his grandmother, Ruby McAfee, who graduated from Piney Woods in 1927.
Lockhart brings more than 23 years of nonprofit experience, having served in impactful roles with organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Striving Children of Rural Environments. His work has been grounded in developing youth, strengthening families, and building opportunities for communities often overlooked or underserved.
In addition to his nonprofit leadership, Lockhart has 18 years of coaching experience, ranging from grassroots programs to NCAA Division I coaching. His broad coaching and player development expertise was strengthened by his professional basketball career, competing in both the NBA G League and multiple international leagues.
A proud husband and father, Lockhart has been married to his wife, Tarrah Lockhart, for 26 years and together they share four children.
At Piney Woods, Lockhart will lead efforts to deepen relationships with community partners, expand engagement opportunities, and strengthen the school’s visibility and impact. With firsthand knowledge of the transformative power of The Piney Woods School and a proven career in service, Lockhart is uniquely positioned to inspire both current students and the wider community.
