JPS welcomes Akilah Irvin to the Board of Trustees

JANS – Jackson Public Schools welcomes Akilah Irvin as the newest member of the JPS Board of Trustees. Irvin, a seasoned quality leader with more than two decades of experience in regulatory compliance, process improvement, and organizational leadership, took the oath of office on Monday, December 1, during a brief ceremony held at the JPS Central Office headquarters. The oath was administered by Larrissa Harris, JPS General Counsel.

Irvin brings an impressive professional background to the Board, including extensive work in Quality Systems, Regulatory Reporting, Continuous Improvement, and organizational development. Her leadership experience spans manufacturing, operations management, project management, and program development – skills that will support the district’s commitment to operational excellence and strategic progress.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Irvin is deeply connected to the district as a proud JPS parent. She is the mother of scholars attending Obama Elementary, Murrah High School, and Lanier Junior/Senior High School. Her dual roles as both a parent and a community leader position her uniquely to advocate for scholar-centered policies and initiatives that support academic success and holistic development.

Irvin will serve Ward 1, which includes Boyd Elementary, Casey Elementary, McLeod Elementary, and Spann Elementary. Her service to these schools will further strengthen the Board’s connection to families and communities across the ward.
