November was a spontaneous month filled with many new wellness experiences and Trap Pilates landed the number 1 spot for my self-care routine. The class I attended was facilitated by Kendra Quinn-Ward, aka THICKCHICKPILATES on her social media platforms. Quinn-Ward is a Classical and Contemporary Pilates instructor with a strong foundation in dance and group fitness. Originally from Hartford, Connecticut, she is now bringing her expertise and passion to the Jackson, Mississippi, community.

Quinn-Ward’s mission is to make Pilates accessible, welcoming, and culturally relevant, especially within the Black community. She specializes in rehab-centered Pilates, working with athletes, men and women managing scoliosis and osteoporosis, and anyone needing mindful, corrective movement. She currently teaches Mat Pilates in Jackson at The Organic Space and in Canton at The Well. Private reformer sessions are also offered by appointment only. Through her teachings, Quinn-Ward creates empowering, informed, and inclusive movement spaces where everybody is supported and seen. Her passion is felt throughout her work, and her vibrant energy makes the space welcoming and enjoyable.

Now, let’s get to this Saturday rising, Trap Pilates class! In the past, I’ve participated in reformer Pilates classes, and they were definitely enjoyable. This class, however, was sculpt mat Pilates – intense in the best way. You had to lock in, stay present, and truly focus. I loved the movement, and the trap music was an exceptional add-on. The DJ matched the right songs with the right movements, creating a high-energy yet emotionally soft experience.

I had the opportunity to speak with two participants about the class.

Ramiyah Thompson shared that she arrived feeling nervous, tense, and tight. After the Pilates session, she described feeling open, grounded, and deeply relaxed.

I also spoke with Kintrelle Robinson, who said he absolutely loved the class – the trap music was a standout, and he definitely felt the engagement in his core.

In closing, this self-care practice is a solid 10/10. Quinn-Ward is professional, intentional, and led a well-structured class that truly connected body, mind, and soul. The environment was clean, welcoming, and easy to settle into. And the Trap music? That was the icing – setting the tone, lifting the energy, and making the whole experience feel fun, freeing, and full of good vibes. I felt amazing! This was a sold-out class, so I highly recommend you sign up early for future sessions.

Here are 5 reasons why you should try Pilates:

1. Lowers Cortisol Levels – Pilates supports nervous system regulation, helping reduce stress hormones and promote a calmer, more balanced state.

2. Strengthens Deep Core Muscles – It targets the transverse abdominis and pelvic floor, improving stability, posture, and overall body support.

3. Supports Menopause & Hormonal Balance – Gentle, low-impact movement helps ease joint stiffness, improve circulation, and support mood changes during menopause.

4. Improves Mobility Without Overstrain – Pilates builds strength and flexibility simultaneously – protecting joints while enhancing range of motion.

5. Enhances Mind-Body Connection – Intentional breath and movement increase body awareness, focus, and emotional grounding.
