Statement from the City of Jackson on JXN Water Rate Appeal

The City of Jackson would like to clarify news reports of a decision not to appeal the district court’s order regarding JXN Water rates. The City did not “miss” any deadline to appeal. The City Council was fully informed by the Administration of their options and made a deliberate choice not to pursue an appeal.

For additional context, a member of the council placed an item related to this matter on the Council agenda on March 10. The issue was tabled for further discussion during executive session, where both the Administration and the Council thoroughly reviewed the March 25 appeal deadline. The matter was reintroduced at the March 24 meeting, where the motion did not receive a second. The City remains committed to transparency and ensuring public understanding of its decision-
making processes.
