Second Annual Mississippi Mental Health Faith-Based Summit May 8th in Brandon

JANS – Local organizations are sponsoring a free mental health summit in Brandon, Miss., for faith-based organizations and churches during Mental Health Awareness Month. The Mississippi Department of Mental Health (DMH), the Mississippi Public Health Institute (MSPHI), and the Congregational Recovery Outreach Program (CROP) created this summit to help faith-based communities strengthen mental health support for people and families faced with challenges. This year’s summit will be held on Thursday, May 8 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Brandon Civic Center.

Titled “A Bridge of Hope – Where Faith and Mental Health Connect,” the summit brings together church leaders, mental health professionals, and caregivers from across the state to offer discussions and presentations aimed at equipping faith-based organizations to better serve and aid those dealing with mental health struggles. The mental health faith-based summit returns for a second year in the state of Mississippi.

“Our faith communities are so important for so many of us here in Mississippi,” DMH Executive Director Wendy Bailey said. “We’re thankful for our faith leaders who recognize this is an important way they can support their congregations and people in need of help, whether it’s for mental health treatment or alcohol and drug struggles. Connecting our churches and their leadership with their local mental health services and supports is a vital way we can support our communities.”

Registration is required for those attending. To register or for more information contact Sylvia Turner at 601-398-4406. Interested organizations and individuals can also email CROP@msphi.org or use the following link to register: https://bit.ly/CROP25.
