Columbus, MS – Following Democratic flips of GOP-held Senate District 2 and Senate District 45, breaking the Republican supermajority in the Mississippi State Senate for the first time in over a decade, District Attorney Scott Colom issued the following statement:

“Last night’s election results proved that Mississippians are ready for leaders who put people over politics,” said Colom. “After 13 years, Mississippians broke the Supermajority in the Mississippi Senate because they’re tired of politicians who only look out for themselves and leave Mississippi families behind as our costs keep going up. Mississippi is ready for change, and we’re going to carry this momentum into November 2026 and replace Cindy Hyde-Smith so Mississippians have someone to fight for them in the U.S. Senate.”

These flips come on the heels of a Mississippi Governors race where Democrats cut the GOP margin in half from the previous race, and in a state with the largest Black population in America.

About Scott: Scott Colom is a seventh-generation Mississippian, proud husband and father of two, and district attorney who fights every day to keep Mississippians safe.
