Remember, Lest We Forget Jakeria Blount

Jakeria Blount, a dedicated third-grade math teacher at Spann Elementary for four years, transitioned March 20, 2026. She was 27, born December 31, 1998. Jackson Public Schools is mourning her passing along with her family and community. Blount graduated from fifth grade at Spann, making her return as an educator especially meaningful.

Blount earned her degree from Mississippi State University and came back to Spann to begin her career as a teacher assistant. Through her passion, commitment, and love for education, she later became a third-grade math teacher, where she made a lasting impact on her students and colleagues.

Known for her kind and gentle spirit, Blount had a deep love for teaching mathematics and a special ability to connect with those around her. She created a warm and supportive learning environment, inspiring countless students to grow in confidence and understanding.
