OPINION: Endorsements – Mississippi, let’s not disappoint America

Good people of Mississippi, please imagine with me Cindy Hyde-Smith walking down a lonely alley alongside a stray dog identical to the final scene in the iconic 1966 movie entitled Alfie, and beautifully captured in the lyrics written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and sung by Dionne Warwick. That imagery is what all voters in search of an altruistic Mississippi should carry into the voting booth Nov. 3.
What’s it all about Cindy?
Is it just for the moment we live?
What’s it all about when you sort it out, Cindy?
Are we meant to take more than we give, or are we meant to be kind?
I believe we are meant to be kind, and only one Mississippi senatorial candidate will assuredly treat all his constituents with kindness and provide a path forward to improve the state’s race relations across economic, social, and political spectrums. Vote Scott Colom because America is pulling for us. Let’s not disappoint!
Most certainly, Bennie G. Thompson needs to return to Washington. He is our most trusted member of Congress.
The only other candidates I know well enough to endorse are Hinds County Court Judge Subdistrict 2 Yemi Kings and attorney Rhonda Cooper who wants to serve in a judicial capacity in Madison and Leake counties. I’m sure candidates in other congressional and judicial races are well qualified to serve their constituents, as well as candidates for Hinds County District Attorney. We’ll update candidate endorsement in the event there are runoffs. A special thank you to candidates and GOTV campaigns for valuing the Jackson Advocate to spread the word.
