Motivational Mondays in the Marketplace: Your Watershed Mandate Is at Hand

There are moments in life when we realize that what we have been praying about is no longer
somewhere in the distance. It is standing directly in front of us. I believe this is one of those moments
for Mississippi.

Recently, I have been reflecting on what I call The Watershed Mandate. A watershed is a dividing
point where the direction of the flow changes, and a mandate is an assignment or responsibility that has
been placed into your hands. Together, these words carry a powerful message for business leaders,
ministry leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, and community builders. It is a new day, and our
assignments are at hand.

Many of us have spent years praying, preparing, planning, learning, and waiting. We have asked God
for clarity, opportunity, resources, favor, partnerships, and direction. But there comes a point when
prayer must lead to movement. There are assignments we cannot keep discussing indefinitely. There
are ideas that cannot remain in notebooks. There are conversations that need to happen, relationships
that need to be cultivated, systems that need to be built, and problems that need courageous leaders
willing to address them.

Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are God’s workmanship, created to do the good works He prepared
for us in advance. That means your assignment is not accidental. Your position in business, ministry,
education, healthcare, government, banking, nonprofit leadership, or community development may be
connected to something much larger than your title.

Your mandate may be to create jobs, mentor young people, strengthen families, restore integrity in
your industry, develop solutions for communities that have been overlooked, open doors for others, or
build something that will outlive you. The question is not whether your assignment looks impressive to
someone else. The question is whether you are willing to respond to what has been placed in your
hands.

A watershed moment requires a decision. Once water reaches the dividing point, it must flow
somewhere. In the same way, there comes a time when discernment must become decision, preparation
must become execution, and vision must become action. Mississippi does not only need people who
can identify what is wrong. We need leaders who are willing to help build what is right.

This week, take time to ask yourself some honest questions. What assignment keeps returning to my
heart? What have I delayed that I already know I should begin? What problem am I uniquely
positioned to help address? What has God already placed in my hands? And if this truly is a watershed
moment, what needs to change in the way I lead?

Your next step may not be dramatic. It may be one phone call, one meeting, one proposal, one
partnership, one decision, or one act of obedience. But that one step may be the beginning of a new
direction.

Your mandate is at hand. This is not the season to shrink back from responsibility. It is the season to
recognize your assignment, take your place, and move forward with wisdom, courage, integrity, and purpose. It is a new day in Mississippi, and every leader must answer the question: What has been
placed in my hands to do in it?
