Motivational Mondays in the Marketplace: When God Redefines Success
By Dr. Kathy L. Amos
Last week I hosted a Lunch & Learn gathering that had been carefully planned. The agenda was prepared, the program was structured, and we expected the room to be full.
But as the event unfolded, things did not follow the schedule we had laid out.
Only seven women were present.
In most event-planning standards, that might feel like a disappointment. But what unfolded in that room reminded me of something powerful:
Success in God’s Kingdom is not measured by numbers. It is measured by transformation.
From the moment the women entered the room, something extraordinary began to happen. They connected instantly. Conversations flowed naturally. They exchanged ideas, contact information, and encouragement. Collaboration sparked without effort.
The networking during lunch became a powerful exchange of vision.
What we planned as a structured program turned into something far greater; a divine encounter.
Although the agenda shifted from what we originally planned, the moment created space for something meaningful. I was able to speak directly into the lives of each honoree, sharing what God had placed on my heart for them regarding the assignments and missions they carry.
By the end of the gathering, every woman in that room was uplifted, encouraged, and deeply grateful to have been present.
That experience reminded me of two powerful truths.
First, it does not take a crowd for God to move.
Throughout history, some of the most significant moments of transformation have happened in small rooms, around small tables, with a handful of people who were open and ready to receive.
Second, we must never become so attached to our plans that we miss God’s presence.
Planning is important. Structure is necessary. But when we surrender our agendas and allow God to lead, He often moves in ways that exceed our expectations.
Sometimes what we call a disruption is actually divine redirection.
In leadership, business, ministry, and community work, we can become focused on metrics—attendance numbers, schedules, and outcomes. Yet the true measure of success is the impact made in the lives of the people present.
Seven women showed up.
And for those seven women, the moment was exactly what they needed.
When we yield our spaces to God and remain sensitive to His leading, every gathering becomes an opportunity for transformation.
So, the next time your plans shift, or things do not go as expected, remember this:
God does not need a crowd to accomplish His purpose.
Sometimes the most powerful moves happen in rooms that look small but carry eternal significance.
