Motivational Mondays in the Marketplace: Connecting the Dots

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

By Dr. Kathy Amos

When I was a child, I loved connect-the-dots coloring pages. At first glance, they looked
confusing; random numbers scattered across a blank sheet. But once I began connecting them in
order, a clear picture began to emerge.

Recently, the Lord reminded me that vision works the same way.

When God gives us an assignment, it rarely comes as a completed portrait. Instead, it looks like
scattered dots; ideas, opportunities, relationships, instructions, and seasons that don’t seem to
make sense at first. Our responsibility is not to rush ahead and sketch our own version of the
picture. Our responsibility is obedience.

Proverbs 3:5–6 (NLT) says,
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in
all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

Many times, in leadership, business, and even ministry, we become anxious to see the finished
product. We try to skip ahead. We connect dots out of order. We align with people prematurely.
We force timelines.

And then we find ourselves erasing.
Erasing costs time.
Erasing costs momentum.
Erasing costs emotional energy.
But here’s the deeper revelation: every dot matters.
Every dot represents something strategic…
A lesson.
A delay.
A door.
A divine relationship.
Even a disappointment.
Nothing in God’s design is random.

The danger comes when we connect to the wrong dot. Sometimes that dot is a partnership God
never assigned. Sometimes it’s an opportunity that looked good but wasn’t God. When we move
outside divine instruction, we eventually have to backtrack.
Isaiah 30:21 (NLT) promises,

“Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, ‘This is the way you should
go,’ whether to the right or to the left.”

The beauty of walking with God is this: we can complete the picture but we must do it His way.
The vision will come together.
The assignment will be fulfilled.
But only when we trust His order, His timing, and His wisdom.
The masterpiece isn’t created by speed.
It’s created by obedience.
