MLICCI prepares child care providers to lead the way to the ballot box

JANS – As Mississippi prepares for the November election, the Mississippi Low-Income Child Care Initiative (MLICCI) has launched a statewide Civic Engagement Train-the-Trainer series.

“Mississippi Child Care Changemakers: Leading the Way to the Ballot Box” are regional trainings designed for child care providers, staff, parents, and community partners who want to help strengthen civic participation in their communities. Trainings will take place in Biloxi on May 16, Indianola on June 13, Tupelo on June 27, and Jackson on July 11.

“When families understand their power, their voices shape our future,” said Jearlean Osborne, Child Care Organizer for MLICCI. “We’re working to equip child care providers with the tools they need to prepare families to make their voices heard this November.”

Participants will learn how voting connects to the issues that matter most to families, including child care, education, jobs, and community investment. Experts and advocates will lead presentations and discussions. MLICCI will also share how its “V is for Vote” child care education curriculum is helping children, families, and educators understand the importance of civic participation.
