MEE awarded grant to let the music play on!
JANS – Musical Expressions Experience (MEE), a nonprofit arts organization empowering youth through music and creative education, has received funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission (MAC) for Fiscal Year 2026. This grant supports the Bucket Drumming Experience – an engaging, hands-on percussion program that builds rhythm skills, music literacy, and teamwork among K–12 students across Jackson.
In addition to the grant, MEE is seeking high school and college students who need volunteer service hours and want to make a positive impact in the community.
Volunteers will:
• Assist with teaching and facilitating bucket drumming sessions
• Mentor youth in music and creativity
• Gain leadership and teaching experience
• Optional: Gain social media management or videography experience by helping document and promote programs online
No drumming experience required – training is provided.
“This program not only enriches the lives of young people, it also gives student volunteers an opportunity to develop skills, fulfill service hour requirements, and create lasting community impact,” said FaDerricka B. Harvey, Project Director of MEE.
Interested high school or college students can email fbharvey@meexperience.org or call 601-944-5445 to sign up or learn more.
